April Is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month - IBS Awareness Month

Monday, April 4th, 2011

April has been declared IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month by the International Foundation of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders.

Here’s a little bit about IBS because so many people have asked, “what is IBS?” IBS is a disorder who’s symptoms are abdominal pain, discomfort, and changing bowel habits. These changes can include chronic or recurrent diarrhea, constipation, or both. They can manifest as mixed or in alternate responses. It’s a very common disorder, affecting between 10-15 % of the population in the US.

One of the most effective methods to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS is the use of hypnotism, or hypnotherapy. Using hypnosis and mental imagery clients have reported sustainable and repeated relief from the symptoms of this disorder. In fact, the NHS, which is the governing body overseeing the health care system in the UK, has been referring their citizens to hypnotherapy as a means to treat this problem.

If you would like some further information on how you can help treat your IBS with hypnosis you can call me at 212 223-1832. All medical issues do require a doctors referral.

New York Hypnosis Meets Art Project

Friday, May 21st, 2010

I was just reading about Zack Seckler’s, The Love Project. An artistic endeavor I am proud to have been a part of. Zack had this brilliant idea to take ordinary people and have them be hypnotized to connect with their feelings of love for some specific person, place of thing from their past. In essence, re-experience that love while looking at the camera. You can read more about it here:

Obituary of Gil Boyne, 1924-2010

GIL BOYNE, 1924-2010

Gil Boyne died on 5th May 2010 at his home in London, after a brief illness. Having been admitted to hospital and been given a diagnosis a week previously, he told his wife Ann that he was very ready to go, that he wanted to pass away at home and he didn’t want to linger. He left hospital on 4th May, arrived home and passed away around 8.45 on Wednesday morning. His wife, his daughter and his grandchildren were with him. He was 85 years old….

…The article goes on to recount the highlights of his life, growing up in a working class environment, coming from an abusive home environment and not being able to follow his educational dreams.
It is lengthy, but not at all long enough to tell the whole story of Gil, and the massive effect he has had on this profession.

Gil’s real achievement can be seen when you visit your local practicing hypnotist because that ability alone, that you are able to see a hypnotist at all, has much to do with Gil Boyne’s tenacity and dedication to fighting for your rights along with the hypnotist’s right to practice hypnotism.

If left to their own devices, other professions would have buried the use of hypnosis altogether because it was seen as a successful competitive modality that would keep people away “from their own preferred methods of treatment and therapy”.
