Can You Overcome Fears With Hypnosis

Friday, October 1st, 2010

If you are reading this article, you’ve probably wondered how to deal with your fears. You probably have been dealing with those fears for some time, hoping they’d go away by themselves. And then you found that they actually started becoming worse. It was then that you started searching for answers to your fear based responses. You might have even tried a number of the usual remedies, drugs, talk therapy, counseling, and some might have provided you with some results and then maybe not.

When you deal with your fears with drugs, if they didn’t make you feel better, they may have numbed your senses and made you feel out of sorts. And of course there’s no surprise that drugs come with a whole list of bad side effects. And then talk therapy or counseling might have given you no relief or some relief, but not enough to keep you satisfied that you were done with your fears.

And now you’re still searching for answers. Well what are your fears anyway? And why do we have fears in the first place? The answers to these questions will provide you some ways that you can begin to solve your fear problems.

Fears are the way that we have of protecting ourselves. Fear is a response that we feel when we acknowledge that we are unsafe. When you take it all the way back to the original man and his environment you will get an idea of why we experience fear and what it’s meant to do for us. Because it’s important to know that fear plays a very important role in our survival. It’s our friend when used correctly.

So imagine for a moment, prehistoric man walking around the forest searching out something to eat. Maybe berries or a nice big head of lettuce, (just kidding). And while he’s busy searching for food for himself and his family he becomes aware of a predator that is stalking him. He might not be able to see it or really know it, but he kind of recognizes the predators presence. That sense of fear will automatically kick in to provide him with the rush of energy, through adrenaline, that he will need to steal himself to fight, or to run hard and fast to get away from there. So I’m sure you can see how that fear would be a handy thing to have available to you when you need it.

Fear is something that has been programmed into our bodies so that we could protect ourselves and that fear comes in a spectrum of strengths. The example of our ancestors from prehistoric times needed one level of fear. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most fear you could feel, let’s call that a 10. So we are able to feel that level of fear because we needed that intensity to protect ourselves in that dramatic way. But in our modern times, we rarely need to elicit that high intensity of fear, but it is available if we need it.

Now stop and take a look at what goes on around you during your every day life. I doubt there are predators of the ilk of the ones around long ago. There might be occurrences happening that might elicit that fear response, like the threat of losing your job, or being thrown out of your house, or even losing your girlfriend or boyfriend. But none of those common fear producing events need you to run away as hard as you can or stand around and physically engage in a fight. Most of our normal fears should bring about a scale number of maybe 3-7 on that scale of 1 to 10. And 1 on that scale is totally safe and secure.

So here’s your problem. If you are experiencing improper fear response it’s because your mechanism for adjusting fear, let’s call it a fear dial, is not working properly. It might be working on only 2 or 3 levels of fear, rather than the full scale of all 10 levels. Or you might have learned that it’s important to escalate your level of fear very quickly because of some past event, and you continue to go zero to 10 in no time flat, because you’ve become accustomed to responding that way.

Now we get to the good part. How can hypnosis help you with your fear problem? Hypnosis is a tool that allows you or someone you trust to communicate with the part of your mind where your emotional responses are programmed. So with the information that you now know, how do you think that could be of help to you? I’ll tell you. You can program your mind to respond to a lower level of threat with a lower level of fear response. Once those new responses are incorporated, even briefly, they can then be practiced mentally. And because your subconscious doesn’t really know whether something is real or imagined and responds the same way, when you do that type of mental rehearsal, just by practicing that new response it becomes the familiar way to respond. Giving you the freedom to respond the way you would like to.

Can Your Child’s School Cause Panic Attacks?

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

You probably are very concerned for your child’s safety and well being. And you become especially concerned when your son or daughter experiences fear as a result of attending school. That’s completely understandable. After all, you send your child to school to get an education and to learn social skills. You don’t expect them to be left unprotected from other elements that could be causing them problems, and you certainly don’t expect them to come home to you in a panicked emotional state, refusing to go back to school again. And it becomes worse when it’s for an unexplained reason.

Many times situations like this happen and there seems to be no known or obvious reason as to why your child feels this way. But the symptoms are quite clear. They refuse to participate, they complain of physical pain, such as stomach aches, or headaches. And these symptoms are real physical pains. You become worried and angry that the people you left in charge of your loved one have failed to protect them, and worse still, you were unable to protect them as well.

This type of thing is becoming so common that no child is immune to it no matter what level of society you come from. A recent report highlighted the panic attacks and fears along with the physical pains that Princess Aiko of Japan, the granddaughter of the Emperor experienced while in school. She has refused to go back. Here’s what was reported:

Princess Aiko, the eight-year-old granddaughter of the Japanese Emperor, has become unable to go to school after suffering a series of anxiety attacks and stomach aches.

Her problems, said the Imperial Household Agency, arose from her “rough behaviour” at the hands of boys in her age group at the ultra-exclusive Gakushuin school she attends in central Tokyo.

It does not appear that the young princess was injured in the incident, or that the alleged roughness constituted much more than the usual raucous behaviour of eight-year-old boys in the playground.

So it’s clear that this problem strikes every social strata leaving no social class immune. But how can you protect your family from having to go through this type of problem? There are methods that you can use to help build up your family’s mental defenses as well as dealing with the problem head on if it should arise. And the answers in both cases involve the use of hypnosis.

As a way to defend your children from having to experience these type of symptoms you can teach them how to build up their confidence levels and their self esteem. This can quickly be accomplished with self hypnosis techniques. Self hypnosis is really just showing your children how to use their imagination in a way that builds up their positive feelings about themselves. For example, there are times when they feel safe and secure right? There have probably been times when they excelled in something in school, or at play, right? By having them remember those times and fully feeling what they felt back then you are allowing them to practice self hypnosis for feeling really good. You can suggest to them that they can feel this good anytime they want by just imagining that past experience again.

By building this good feeling in over and over again, your child becomes familiar at locating and re-experiencing all those positive feelings of strength and confidence which helps them use those feelings when they will do the most good. These are just some simple measures to take to help keep your child from experiencing panic attacks caused by attending school.

Anxiety Therapy and How It’s Different from Hypnosis Fear

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

If you are living with fear of any kind, you probably have thought about doing something about it. Because fear can be an overwhelming feeling that is pervasive. It can creep into your every day life and make it difficult to focus on what you are doing and live a normal life. I know how you feel. It’s really uncomfortable to wake up every morning and still feel that same rumbling underneath everything that you do. You might have thought that it was anxiety and you might have considered anxiety therapy to help you with that. If that worked for you great! You wouldn’t be still searching for answers.

The problem is that anxiety therapy is not the answer for every one and is not necessary when the problem is just fear. Fear creates a primal response known as the flight or fight response. Anxiety therapy doesn’t always address your problem the way it needs to be dealt with especially if it is not anxiety but fear. And your fear response is only your learned automatic response.

With hypnosis you can learn to change your responses to your thoughts. You can remove your habitual fear based responses naturally. Hypnosis is your natural ability to use trance in an effective communicative way. It is also complementary with other modalities. So if you are currently doing anxiety therapy you can ask your doctor for a referral to see your hypnotist to help with your fear. You might find that when you work on your fear, your anxiety also becomes less intense.

It really sucks going through life carrying around a fear that has no purpose. The purpose of fear is to protect us in dangerous situations. Most of your day in and day out life experiences are not dangerous. If they are then neither anxiety therapy nor hypnosis fear will help you. You need to take other measures to remove the dangerous situation.

One of the most common fear based responses is a fear of public speaking. Many people have this problem. It is a major problem that can affect your earning potential. As you move up the ladder of success it is more and more important that you be able to communicate with larger and larger groups of people. If you’re knees get weak, you feel faint, nauseous, get cold sweats, it is hard for you to be a good communicator. So taking care of this public speaking fear or phobia is an investment in your future.
