Marc Carlin, The New York City Hypnotist,

is a New York-based consulting hypnotist , using his skills and his work in advanced hypnotic research to help clients achieve their best. His private practice focuses on personal growth, behavioral modification, and performance improvement in career, athletics, and academics. He also works on a variety of health issues under appropriate medical/psychological referral. Helping people acquire their personal best, and success is his passion. He enjoys helping clients become non-smokers and take back control over their eating choices.

Marc has been interviewed and cited in major publications, including the Tribune family of newspapers, broadcast media, including CBS sports anchor, Tom Stephens, and long time PBS health advocate, Gary Null. He has published numerous articles on hypnosis and behavioral change, and is a contributing author in the new book entitled, “Real World Hypnosis-Insider Tips From Leading Hypnotists.” He is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, the largest organization of its kind. He was an elected member of the education committee for the Professional Ski Instructors of America, as well as the former Director of Health Resources for the grass roots not-for-profit, Earthsave L.I.

The following is an excerpt from an interview that Marc recently gave:

How Long Have You Been Doing What You Do,
And How Did You Get To Be The NYC Hypnotist?

To answer this question, it’s probably best that I share with you a defining moment, and resulting “compelling story” that brought me to where I am today. And where I am today is being in the postition of being able to use my own unique advanced hypnotic techniques to help my clients achieve success where it has escaped them in the past.

That defining moment in my life happened in 1993. I had always had a passion for how the mind worked, as well as a lifelong passion for skiing. After being less active in the sport I loved, because of the birth of my first son, I decided it was time to get back involved on a more consistent level, and introduce my son to this great activity at an early enough age so it would be second nature to him.

Now because I was away for awhile, it took me a bit of time to get my muscle memory and responses back. But giving it time didn’t move me back to the level of competence I felt I had prior to my hiatus. I felt my mind was holding me back. Researching and reading through sports psychology books, I kept coming to passages, chapters and even complete sections dedicated to how to use hypnotic techniques to accomplish the building up of mental states that assure physical and sports success.

Because my mind was now familiar with hypnosis from my research, I noticed an ad for hypnosis training with a local hypnotist who advertised his hypnosis successs working with althletes. I decided to check out his training program to find out more about hypnosis. During the training I discoved how very powerful hypnosis was and how it could be used for so many important issues, like, weight loss, smoking cessation and stress relief. I became hooked. I couldn’t stop myself from learning all I could find about hypnosis and how the mind works. At that very moment I made a commitment to immerse myself in absolutely everything that had to do with furthering my education in this facinating new study. I read every book I could find on hypnosis, nlp mind control, siva method. I sought out the very best, brightest and most experienced hypnotists in the world and traveled to wherever they were, sometimes pestering them until I was able to draw out the essense of all they knew and how they accomplished successful results in their clients and patients.

What type of issues do you work with?

I work with people just like you, normal everyday people with normal
everyday problems. Now because I’ve been so successful in changing my own responses to food and exercise, I understand their challenges so well. I spend a lot of time in my practice focusing on helping people lose weight.

And because I’ve smoked cigarettes and successfully stopped smoking for over 30 years, I find it very rewarding to help others become non smokers.

And because I knew the joys of freeing yourself from limiting

How are you different from other hypnotists?

While hypnosis is about using suggestions to accomplish goals, many hypnotists use only suggestions. This is a powerful approach but limited and sometimes temporary. If underlying protective measures have been established, and are allowed to remain intact, they will resurface, and you’ll find yourself back where you started. With the unique program I offer, we get to the root cause, unplant the seed that set that incorrect, or no longer necessary behavior in motion in the first place and then build new more appropriate behavior on a solid foundation. Each session with me is based upon your previous session and experience and is far more powerful as we move along the process. It’s not just about doing the same thing and hearing the same suggestions over and over and over again. It’s more about finding out how you’re responding with the new changes and continuing to build from there.

What type of person responds best to the work you do, and what’s expected of me?

At my office, my program is designed for people who are ready to make changes. If you think that years of habits and programing can be erased or undone in 1 magical session, you’re still living the a Disney fantasy! The results we’re able to achieve together are relatively very quick, and sometimes seem magical, but there is no magic about it. Having the mindset that you are ready to do whatever is necessary to make change happen is the quickest way to get the change you’re seeking. There is also a price you are paying right now to support and sustain your unhealthy and destructive behavior. If you don’t realize this and accept that the price of change is far more affordable than the price of not changing, then you’re not ready to work with me.

Who will not benefit from this work?

Please know, I’m selective in who I work with, choosing to (gently) turn away people who aren’t suited for my program and won’t get the results for which they would have signed up for. ( It wouldn’t be fair to them)
My program is not for those who have no source of income, and cannot afford to spend money on their own self-improvement. If you find it acceptable to spend your money on things that contribute to your unhealthy lifestyle, and can’t seem to find the money for the things that will benefit you , and free you, it’s unlikely that working with me will be helpful for you.

If you are unwilling to make this focus of working with me on your change a priority, then I ask that you not call me. (the work we do together will require that you not only show up at your scheduled time, but be held accountable for taking appropriate action)

Does this really work?

Yes! The result of our work together is establishing a firm foundation on which to build healthier and more satisfying habits. Re gaining control of your habits and behaviors begins with regaining control of your mind and thoughts. Staying on course always is about automatic behaviors and when choices are required, making the right conscious decision.
