GIL BOYNE, 1924-2010

Gil Boyne died on 5th May 2010 at his home in London, after a brief illness. Having been admitted to hospital and been given a diagnosis a week previously, he told his wife Ann that he was very ready to go, that he wanted to pass away at home and he didn’t want to linger. He left hospital on 4th May, arrived home and passed away around 8.45 on Wednesday morning. His wife, his daughter and his grandchildren were with him. He was 85 years old….

…The article goes on to recount the highlights of his life, growing up in a working class environment, coming from an abusive home environment and not being able to follow his educational dreams.
It is lengthy, but not at all long enough to tell the whole story of Gil, and the massive effect he has had on this profession.

Gil’s real achievement can be seen when you visit your local practicing hypnotist because that ability alone, that you are able to see a hypnotist at all, has much to do with Gil Boyne’s tenacity and dedication to fighting for your rights along with the hypnotist’s right to practice hypnotism.

If left to their own devices, other professions would have buried the use of hypnosis altogether because it was seen as a successful competitive modality that would keep people away “from their own preferred methods of treatment and therapy”.
